Women in Morocco

For an Islamic Arab country, Morocco is very progessive with womens' issues. Over 30% of all judges, doctors, and lawyers are female. Women are free to dress however they choose and recent laws have been passed that give women here more equality. The king himself married a computer engineer.

For women that are poor however, things are much bleaker. The minimum wage is less than 1.50 per hour and it is not unusual to see young girls working full-time (and not going to school) to help support their families.

My new friend Meryam lives in Rabat, works full-time, and also runs a restaurant. She is a busy woman!
